Unlike traditional laminating machines that rely on heat to activate the adhesive in the film, wide format laminators typically use pressure-sensitive films, where the adhesive is permanently tacky. While these systems are considered “cold laminators,” most models feature a top roller with a built-in heater, usually warming to around 40–50°C. This function, known as heat assist, helps accelerate the bonding process and significantly reduces common issues such as silvering or trapped air bubbles when applying cold lamination films.
