GBC has been developing binding and document finishing equipment for decades, and understanding the differences between its systems is important when choosing the right machine.
As an approved GBC partner, we can help you look beyond headline specifications and consider how a machine will fit into the way you actually work. That might mean choosing between a combined punch-and-bind machine and separate production units, deciding which binding style best suits your documents, or finding a punching system that gives you greater flexibility as your requirements change.
Our knowledge of the range is backed by our own GBC-trained and certified engineers, giving you access to specialist support from a team that understands the equipment.
Whether you’re replacing an existing GBC machine, increasing capacity or considering a different binding method, we’ll help you compare the available options and find a solution that makes sense for your application and budget.
GBC’s story began in 1947 when founder William Lane and two business partners developed a faster and more reliable way to bind and laminate for a local printer. What began as General Binding Corporation went on to become a specialist in professional binding, punching and laminating equipment.
Innovation has played an important part in that history. In 1960, GBC introduced the KomboKoil, which combined punching and binding in a single machine, followed by its first electric desktop punch in 1961. In 1966, the company introduced its first tabletop A4 pouch laminator.
Today, GBC continues to produce binding and document-finishing equipment for applications ranging from everyday reports and presentations to higher-volume professional document production.
The best place to start is with the type of document you want to produce and how frequently you’ll be producing it.
Comb binding is a practical choice for reports, manuals and other documents where pages may need to be added or removed. GBC offers both combined machines and dedicated equipment for comb-bound document production.
Wire binding creates a professional finish that allows pages to turn freely and documents to lie flat. Depending on production requirements, punching and wire closing can be handled by separate machines.
Coil binding produces flexible, durable documents with pages that can turn through 360 degrees, making it useful for manuals, reference materials and documents intended for frequent handling.
Strip binding, including GBC SureBind and VeloBind systems, provides another option for securely binding larger documents and reports.
For operations producing several binding styles, a dedicated punch such as the GBC MagnaPunch range can provide additional flexibility through interchangeable punching dies.
Capacity figures don’t always mean the same thing across binding equipment. A punch capacity tells you how many sheets can be punched in a cycle, while binding capacity refers to the thickness or number of sheets in the finished document.
It’s also worth considering the stock you normally use, the volume of documents you produce and whether you want punching and binding combined in one machine or separated into individual production stages.
If you’re unsure, get in touch today to tell us what you’re producing and how often you’re producing it. We can help you compare the GBC options and identify the setup that best fits the way you work.
